Jeanne Nakazawa has an empathetic and mindful approach to therapy, utilizing a variety of targeted methods including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, EMDR, ACT, and Person-Centered Therapy. All of these approaches help clients explore the issues that concern them, decrease their distress, and engage in life with less fear and sadness. She has experience helping clients address a range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, LGBT issues, parenting, relationships, women’s issues and anger.

She specializes in treating trauma using a range of tools including EMDR, Internal Family Systems and the Fragmented Selves model. Because traumatic experiences overwhelm our brain’s ability to cope with what happened, the brain cannot process the memories, causing many distressing symptoms such as anxiety, depression, avoidance of reminders, and reliving experiences. EMDR helps the brain to digest the experiences, putting them in the past, and allowing clients to gain perspective on what happened to them. Using EMDR and other trauma treatment techniques, at times clients can achieve relief with little focus on the distressing memories.

Jeanne is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a degree in Mental Health Counseling from Eastern Kentucky University. She is an EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist.
